History : Gajalakshmi Vilakku, a traditional South India lamp made out of bronze. This diya portrays Goddess Lakshmi the sitting on a full bloomed lotus. The Vilakku has intricately carved elephants at the sides of the Goddess, arches and Louts flowers. Handmade by skilled artisans.All auspicious functions commence with the lighting of the brass diya or vilaku. The meaning is that the ignorance of darkness is removed when the light which symbolizes knowledge is lit. Hence we all bow down to knowledge as the greatest form of wealth.
